Sound was successfully used as a healing force for many thousands of years. All ancient civilizations have derived significant benefits in healing. The Bible tells us that King Saul was healed from depression by David with his harp; Pythagoras himself developed specific frequencies and harmonies to heal the body and mind.

In more recent times the French scholar Dr. Alfred Tomatis, having spent more than fifty years of his life studying the ear and its functions, came to the conclusion that the ear is the most important of all sense organs. In fact, it controls the body's sense of balance, rhythm and movement, and acts as a conductor with the entire nervous system.

The auditory nerve connects through the medulla with all the muscles of the body, and consequently your muscle tone, flexibility, balance and vision are directly influenced by sound.
Through the vagus nerve in the inner ear is also connected with the larynx, heart, lungs, stomach, liver, bladder, kidney, small intestine and large intestine.

From Dr. John Beaulieu:
"I discovered the healing effect of musical intervals while sitting in a completely soundproof room, resembling a sensory deprivation chamber, for five hundred hours over a period of two years and listened to the sounds of my own body. Being a trained musician I became aware of the many sounds made by my own nervous system. One day I brought two tuning forks into the chamber and tapped them together. Immediately I observed that the sound of my nervous system realigned to the sound of the tuning forks. It was then that I realized that people can be tuned like musical instruments!"
